The Princess of Wales's Annual Festive Musical Celebration Spotlights Charity Helpers
The Princess of Wales is hosting her yearly Christmas carol concert at Westminster Abbey, with attendees featuring members of the royal family, famous faces, and community champions who have supported their local areas.
The sizable congregation will enjoy a blend of carols, music and readings from stars like Chiwetel Ejiofor and Kate Winslet.
A Theme of Compassion and Love
The focus of the service, held in the glowing Westminster Abbey on Friday afternoon, is compassion and demonstrating care for others.
Attending the event are Anna and Jonathan Cordiner, whose young girl was lost to a tumour, and who established a foundation, a charity called Kayleigh's Wee Stars, to aid parents with a terminally ill child.
"The dedication, empathy, and kindness you show, often without fanfare or recognition, and without any expectation or recognition, make an remarkable change to the well-being of people," wrote Catherine in a message before the concert.
A Gradual Return
The princess has been making her own gradual return to the public eye subsequent to her illness and medical care, last month delivering her initial major address in two years, in which she reflected on recognising the "discreet, frequently unseen labour of caregivers".
Musical Talent and Access
Those coming to the Abbey will be entertained by talented youth performers supported by the charitable trust Future Talent, co-founded by the late Duchess of Kent to widen access to musical tuition.
An 18-year-old named Carys Wood, who is a trumpet player and is from Pembrokeshire, has been helped by the organisation, with funding assisting with instruments, tuition, and transportation expenses - and she said it was "incredible" to be playing at the concert.
"Pursuing music is often costly," she stated. She is now a student at the prestigious music academy, and added that "all people deserve the chance" to hone their artistic talents.
Generations Gathering
Her younger sibling Eliza, aged 11, who performs on the brass instrument, will be present at the Abbey. "It's unbelievable that I get to perform here in front of so many important people," she said.
Attending the service will be individuals spanning multiple eras.
That will feature young Saphia Turner, nine, honouree of a young hero award, who sells artwork and carries out sponsored challenges to raise money for local food charities.
Seasonal Ambiance and Entertainment
The Abbey has been adorned with handcrafted festive wreaths, with well-known chef Mary Berry and flower expert Simon Lycett assisting in their creation.
Taking to the stage will be singer Katie Melua, choristers from Westminster Abbey and a Cornish sea shanty group, the group Fisherman's Friends, who said the opportunity to perform was "the icing on the cake for us."
This annual carol service will be televised and shown on a major network on Christmas Eve.
