The Fifth Toy Story Film Trailer Pits The Beloved Duo Versus a Tablet Computer
It has been 30 years since the first Toy Story film was released, launching Pixar as a major animation studio and bringing viewers to iconic characters like Woody (the actor) and Buzz Lightyear (the voice talent), who are now famous worldwide.
In 2026, the next chapter is scheduled for release. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 landed this week, offering a brief look into the storyline but keeping viewers wondering how it will resolve the ending of Toy Story 4.
The Latest Addition: A Digital Device Spooks the Gang
In the teaser shows the young girl — who inherited the toy collection when he grew up — getting a latest plaything, one that terrifies Woody, Buzz, and the crew. She gets her first tablet computer, and she is thrilled about it.
Theoretically, the frog-shaped tablet will come to life just like the rest of her playthings. However, the toys seem to view it as a threat coming to replace them, which it probably is.
Woody's Return: Mysteries from Toy Story 4
An element the trailer doesn't touch on is why the sheriff is back with his companions in Bonnie's room. The end of Toy Story 4 depicted him embark on a new adventure with Bo Peep (Annie Potts), journeying with a carnival and helping prize toys locate loving owners.
Surely, the filmmakers will explain the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the film. Witnessing him appear in Bonnie's room unexpectedly is somewhat puzzling, however. It also raises questions whether his partner will have come back with him. And where is Duke Caboom (Keanu Reeves)?
Continuity from the Previous Film
At the very least, some elements are carrying over from the prior film. The last thing Woody did before departing for his new life was hand over his sheriff badge to the cowgirl (the voice actor), entrusting her as the leader of Bonnie's bedroom. In the teaser shows the badge pinned to her shirt.
It is hoped she is still the key figure among the group.
Toy Story 5 debuts on June 19, 2026.
